5 Tips on Finding a French Language Software

There are lots of translation software applications available in the market today. But most are for PCs with a Windows OS. However, Mac users who want to study French need not fret. There are French-English translation software programs for Macintosh available in the market today. While the most convenient way is to download stuff online, most of these translation programs are in boxed CD sets. If you're a Mac user interested in studying French, these tips can lead you in the right direction:

1. Write down your Mac's specs. This is pretty self-explanatory. It's useless even if you find dozens of translation software but not one that is compatible with your Mac. Unless you're willing to buy a new machine, limit your search to programs that is compatible with your hardware and operating system.

2. Take note of the available disk space. Unless you can afford to delete some files and applications, fix your search to a translation software that is well-within the limit of your disk space. But don't max out your disk space, Macs tend to slow down when it's memory runs low.

3. Widen your online search. Undoubtedly, you have tried searching online. Your past searches could have given you some useful results but if none still is able to satisfy your French-English translation needs, you might have to widen your search. Join forums and message boards and try to find other Mac users. They might know a thing or two on where to find translation programs for Macintosh.

4. Check actual stores. Of course, being a Mac user and all, you've come to depend on it for many things. But it is also good to supplement your online search with a live one. This is the part where you take that piece of paper with your Mac's specs to the mall, check out computer stores, bookstores, and other related shops for a French-English translation software. Don't just limit your search in browsing shelves; ask the person behind the counter. Better yet, if you have an idea of what program you like, you might ask if they have it in stock.

5. Try the software out first. If you've found a software which is (a) compatible with your Mac, (b) within your budget, and (c) solves your translation problems, don't buy it just yet. Whether it's a download or a boxed set, most of these software have trial versions online. These are for free and can save you a lot of grief if you happen to find out that you don't like the product. If it's crap, you can un-install it from your Mac and start your search again. No harm done to your credit card.
